Thermoelectric Properties of Bismuth Nanowires: Bismuth nanowires were electrochemically deposited in ion track-etched polymer membranes and their transport properties were studied. The Seebeck coefficients of single-and polycrystalline nanowires were measured as a function of wire diameter and temperature. For that purpose, a sample holder was designed that is capable of contacting nanowire arrays still embedded in the polymer template. In order to compare the measured data with theoretical expectations, the transport properties of bismuth nanowires resulting from the Boltzmann equation were evaluated numerically. Furthermore, conductivity measurements on single nanowires were carried out.

Birefringence Properties and Surface Relief Grating Formation on Methylacrylate Polymers with Photochromic Side Chains
We have studied light-induced birefringence (LIB) and surface relief grating (SRG) formation in the series of methylacrylate polymers. The effect of material structure such as length of photochromic side chain, glass transition temperature and molecular structure of azo units on LIB and SRG are studied. The optical formation of self-induced SRG on films of these materials is also presented.
متن کاملPromoting Instructional Change in New Faculty: An Evaluation of the Physics and Astronomy New Faculty Workshop
An important finding of Physics Education Research (PER) is that traditional, transmission-based instructional approaches are generally not effective in promoting meaningful student learning. Instead, PER advocates that physics be taught using more interactive instructional methods. Although the research base and corresponding pedagogies and strategies are well-documented and widely available t...

متن کاملThe Coherence and Incoherence among the Order of Effusion, Physics, and Ancient Astronomy from the Perspective of Muslim Philosophers
The present article deals with coherence and incoherence among the theories of the order of effusion, physics and ancient astronomy. There is no coherence between these fields in the view of Plotinus who is the innovator of the theory of effusion, while there is a coherence and correlation among these orders in Farabichr('39')s philosophy. In this regard Ibn Sina, Ikhwan al-Safa , Shaykh al-...
